We have lived in a small town in Baja California, Mexico for almost 30 years. In 2008, we sold everything and bought our first cruiser… a 48′ Selene Trawler. (The 1st “My Sharona”).
I was still working as a flight attendant, but luckily with the economy slowdown we were able to cruise up and down the East Coast exploring this fabulous cruising territory. We “found” the Bahamas (Exuma to be exact) and then we were hooked. We originally thought we were going to cruise the world, but once in the Bahamas, we didn’t want to go anywhere else.. Our Selene had a deep draft, and it seemed we were always worried about running aground. So we downsized to a cute little 36′ American Tug. With it’s shallow draft, we could squeeze in almost every anchorage. We also did a few summer trips from Florida to Maine and all in between. We had an amazing time meeting all kinds of new cruising friends.
In 2015, both of our parents were getting older and we decided it was time to “grow-up” and go home to Baja. Being close enough to family to get home once in a while. Being back in Baja was great. We both were working in real estate, my husband building homes. We ended up buying some land, and building another home. All was well, but we both noticed that even though we love Baja and our friends here, we were starting to get that “cruising itch” again…
So… We lucked out and found another boat. This time it is a 42′ Ocean Alexander. As I am typing this now, our new boat is named “My Sharona” again… and we are getting ready to cruise the Bahamas again this winter.
I hope you will enjoy following along with our travels. Please check in on us once in a while and give a shout if you see us on the water…
